Advancing injury and violence prevention through data science and community engaged research

About Our Lab

Our mission is to create evidence that drives action in creating safe, resilient spaces for youth and communities to thrive.

We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers spanning the fields of pediatrics, emergency medicine, and public health, working in partnership with individuals with lived experience.

We are committed to conducting innovative research focused on preventing youth from experiencing multiple forms of violence, as well as unintended injuries at the individual, population, and community levels.

Our work incorporates quantitative data science methods, including geospatial mapping, large data analysis, and machine learning, alongside methods of community engaged research, to better understand the systems and environments that shape youth safety and well-being.

Our Focus Areas

Youth Violence Prevention

We seek to understand how various forms of violence experienced by youth violence are interconnected, and to find innovative solutions for prevention of multiple experiences of youth violence within and outside of health systems.

Partnerships for Resilient Futures

The Resilient Futures Lab engages with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to inform our work and increase impact. Guided by trauma-informed principles, we partner with individuals with lived experience of violence, community organizations, policymakers, and government officials to inform our research and translate findings into actionable steps in the real world.
